Information for Vets

Clinical Collaboration & Referral Information

At Paws & Claws Veterinary Physiotherapy & Hydrotherapy Centre, we work in close partnership with veterinary surgeons to support safe, effective rehabilitation in line with current professional standards.

All treatments are carried out under veterinary referral and within the scope of the Veterinary Surgery (Exceptions) Order 2015.

Referral Process

  • A veterinary referral is required prior to the commencement of treatment

  • Referral forms can be submitted via email or using our referral form (available on request)

  • Once received, the client will be contacted directly to arrange an appointment

  • No treatment will begin without appropriate veterinary consent

If additional clarification is required, we will contact the referring practice prior to commencing treatment.

Clinical Responsibility & Governance

  • Treatment is provided strictly within the remit of veterinary physiotherapy

  • No diagnosis or prescription is made outside of veterinary direction

  • Patients are continuously monitored for clinical changes

  • Any concerns or unexpected findings are communicated promptly to the referring veterinary surgeon

  • Patients will be referred back immediately if their condition changes or deteriorates

Consent & Documentation

  • Written owner consent is obtained prior to treatment

  • Veterinary referral and consent are held on file for all patients

  • Treatment notes are recorded for every session

  • Clinical records can be shared with the referring veterinary practice upon request

All documentation is maintained in line with professional and regulatory standards.

Communication & Reporting

We aim to provide clear and consistent communication with referring practices:

  • Initial assessment findings can be shared where appropriate

  • Progress updates are provided for ongoing or complex cases

  • Discharge summaries can be supplied on completion of treatment

  • Open communication is encouraged for case discussion

Patient Safety & Monitoring

  • Patients are assessed at each session for suitability to continue treatment

  • Treatment plans are adapted based on clinical progression and tolerance

  • Any contraindications or risks are carefully considered prior to treatment

  • If any change in medical status is identified, treatment is paused and the patient is referred back to the veterinary surgeon

Data Protection & Confidentiality

All client and patient data is stored securely in accordance with GDPR.

Information is only shared with the referring veterinary practice, insurance providers, or other relevant professionals with client consent.
